WATCH: Colorado Department Corrections protest

May 23, 2022

Black, white, and Brown, state employees in every department deserve to go to work in a job that values our safety, has predictable working hours, and be treated with respect.

Black, white, and Brown, state employees in every department deserve to go to work in a job that values our safety, has predictable working hours, and be treated with respect. When we can rely on safety and respect in our facilities, we can do our jobs well and provide security to ourselves and those in our facilities. Even under the best circumstances, Dept. of Corrections employees work one of the most dangerous jobs in the nation. But a lack of respect, an uncertain work schedule, and high turnover has led to 800+ vacant positions in DOC, creating an even more dangerous situation for inmates and employees. If we can’t take care of ourselves, we can’t ensure safety prevails for those in our prisons, and help the recidivism rate fall in Colorado.

On May 19th we came together to demand that Executive Director of CO Dept. of Corrections Dean Williams address the 800+ vacancies plaguing our correctional facilities and harming Corrections Staff.
